Effective February 6, 2018, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners approved a 60-day extension on the limited moratorium barring the acceptance of applicaitons or plans for the issuance of land disturbance permits, building permits or tenant occupancy permits on property zoned AG for land uses other than a single-family residence or accessory building, place of worship, school or telecommunications tower.  The moratorium will expire on April 7, 2018.  This moratorium will allow time for the development of AG Special Use regulations following the adop...

Mission Statement

Planning is a coordinated, continuous and comprehensive process promoting the vision of the community by providing an environment for orderly growth and development, creating opportunity for business and commercial activity and protection of natural, historical and cultural resources.

The Department of Planning and Land Use serves as a resource on zoning, subdivision of property, development regulation and issues, population and socio-economic data, and similar material relating to the growth and development of Cherokee County. The Department is responsible for the Long Range and Current Planning activities providing a wide array of comprehensive planning and land use regulatory services to the interests of Cherokee County.

Department functions include:

  • Comprehensive Planning
  • Community Development Programs
  • Neighborhood and Area Plans
  • Intergovernmental Coordination and Policy Analysis
  • Zoning and Variance Case Administration
  • Interpretation, Enforcement and Amendments of Zoning Ordinance, Overlay District Regulations and Sign Control Ordinance
  • Permitting of Signage
  • Review and Approval of Land Subdivision Plats
